Cash Drawers

Did you know that cleaning and re-greasing the cash drawer rails could help in the operation of the cash drawers?

 

A basic de-greaser and a clean cloth will work wonders to clean the rails. Once clean, use a “petroleum” based grease to apply on the ball-bearings in the rails. Stay away from WD-40 as this hardens over time and hinders the operation of the cash drawer.

 

Please note: Not all cash drawers are the same and cleaning does not guarantee improved operation.

Bob's Technical Insights: Printers

Are you having frequent printer paper jams?

  • Paper Storage: If you suffer from frequent paper jams, check to see where the paper is stored. Is it stored in a temperature controlled environment? How old is the paper? Paper stored for a long periods of time could collect moisture that can cause the jam. Try using a "fresh," new roll of paper.
  • Type of paper: Paper jams can occur due to the type of paper being used. If you have already verified that your paper is being stored in a climate controlled environment, try a different type of paper.

 

Does your customer receipt have vertical lines on the printout?

Print heads / thermal heads will collect debris from the paper rolls that run through the printers. If you take a small alcohol swab or Q-tip and clean the print head, this can sometimes increase the quality of the print outs. Ensure that the print head / thermal head is dry prior to re-loading the paper and printing again.
