Cash Drawers

Did you know that cleaning and re-greasing the cash drawer rails could help in the operation of the cash drawers?

 

A basic de-greaser and a clean cloth will work wonders to clean the rails. Once clean, use a “petroleum” based grease to apply on the ball-bearings in the rails. Stay away from WD-40 as this hardens over time and hinders the operation of the cash drawer.

 

Please note: Not all cash drawers are the same and cleaning does not guarantee improved operation.

Bob's Technical Insights: Hand Held Scanners

It's 3 days before Christmas and all through your stores, shoppers are stirring with purchases galore. Shoppers hold thier purchases in their arms with care in hopes that the checkouts will soon be bare. When, what to their wondering eyes should appear, but no cashiers checking and lines frozen still.

 

If your hand-held scanners are holding up your lines in the busiest season of this year - try these tips to get things up and running quickly.


Dead Scanners:

  • Is your register powered on? Remember any scanner that is connected to a register with a cable draws power from the base unit.
  • Is the cable loose on the base unit? Power off your base unit, disconnect and reconnect the cable in the same port. Turn the base unit on.
  • Did the scanner beep? Some scanners omit a beep to confirm the scanner is getting power from the base unit. Also, some scanners have a trigger needs to be pressed to “wake” up the scanner.


Gibberish or unrecognizable numbers or letters from the read of your scanner
Your scanner may need to be re-programmed. If you have been provided with the re-programming barcodes, please rescan the barcodes. (If you do not have the re-programming barcodes, contact your helpdesk for further instructions.) Restart your register.

GS1 DataBar Sunrise: Are You Ready? - Mon, 21 December

The next major Sunrise date in the US for GS1 DataBar™ is almost upon us. GS1 US had recommended, "that retailers in the business of selling loose produce and processing manufacturer coupons begin preparing point-of-sale hardware and software systems to scan and process GS1 DataBar symbols and numbers by January 1, 2010."

 

Ubiquitous use of these smaller, data-rich bar codes by January 1, 2010 will not quite be a reality, yet their use is becoming more pervasive, and the benefits of their eventual full implementation should neither be dismissed nor ignored.
